Editor, Writer and Translator
Andrea Zanin is an editor, writer and French-to-English translator with 20 years’ experience as a language professional across numerous fields.
Andrea is passionate about clarity in communication, whether it’s in a tweet or a textbook. She holds a BA specialization in translation and is a senior editor with the Talk Science to Me team.
Growing up fluently bilingual in Montreal, Andrea was always fascinated by languages and their potential to connect people and their ideas. She studied English, French, Latin and Spanish in high school and CEGEP, which naturally led her to combine them by pursuing a translation degree in university. Then, in 1999, she ran away and joined the circus. Specifically, she took a position as a revisor and translator with Cirque du Soleil, where she remained for six years before choosing the freelancer life in 2005.
Since then, Andrea has worked with a wide range of clients, providing a constantly shifting mix of editing (substantive, stylistic, copy and proofreading), writing, content strategy and translation services. She has developed a special affinity for clients working in environment, climate change, health care, urban design and engineering, including the Ville de Montréal’s environment team, Polytechnique Montréal, the David Suzuki Foundation and more. Thanks to her academic bent, she also greatly enjoys working with scholarly texts, including papers, journals, reports, dissertations and monographs. In her spare time, she has earned an MA and is pursuing a PhD while endlessly expanding both her home library and her shoe collection.
